After reading a reply comment by Anonymous to our Invitation topic, we thought the topic of televangelism could also stir up some debate regarding possible reasons why Americans cannot discuss topics rationally.
Is it possible that the extremely voiciferous American Christian Right truly believes that the words of these evangelists, which are used to stir up patriotism and are mixed with unhealthy narcissistic twisted biblical quotations, are percieved to be the "truth, justice and the American way" ?
Do the bible thumping ways of these preaching superstars really make their 'disciples' feel filled with the Light of the Lord to the point where they hold their heads up and look down their noses at anyone who views these preachers as what they really are....money making enterprises?
Do people think that by living a life labelled as a christian by these shysters will get them into heaven?
Who knows....
But could it explain part of the ineffectuality of their discussions on the net? Are they afraid to dissent in case God is watching?

You could be right.
These lyrics by a famous American performer make the same point.
"1,000 mothers are praying for it
We're so full of hope
And so full of shit
Build a new god to medicate and to ape
Sell us ersatz dressed up and real fake
Anything to belong
GOD IS IN THE T.V."
yeah check this dude out and they loved him!
Jerry Falwell
Proposition:
As long as we accept the principle that religious faith must be respected simply because it is religious faith, it is hard to withhold respect from the faith of Osama bin Laden and the suicide bombers
